LAND MANAGEMENT

FALLEN TREES

When a tree falls down nature can be allowed to take its course and the rotted wood eventually goes back into the land. Whilst it's rotting down it can become the home to a mass of fungi (see our fungi page) However when trees have become unsafe they must be felled.

 Dangerous tree
This one had blown over and was resting against another. It could have fallen on somebody and was just at the location where one of our family wanted to pitch a tent in the Summer. So it was taken down. For this we used a winch and just pulled it over. Afterwards it was chopped up and turned round to face the field. It's now serving a very useful purpose -
as a seat to observe the deer that congregate nearby.
