QUODITCH EDUCATION DEVON

QUODITCH MOOR NATURE RESERVE

VERTEBRATES

This page will contain details of as many vertebrates from Quoditch as possible that we can catalogue. Currently here are photographs of some of the creatures that we have found so far.

We have both red and roe deer and you can see lots of evidence of their presence such as this footprint. There are deer wallows in fields five and six, where the deer roll in the mud to rid themselves of unwanted lodgers. You may find hair embedded in the mud around the wallow.

Many of the tracks through the woods, running from north to south are made by the deer.

REPTILES

In April 1998 we found a pair of these lizards in field four. They were basking in the spring sunshine. Lizards were also seen by our visitors in October.

Frogs are not uncommon and can be seen at the right time of the year in their various stages. This frogspawn was found in February.

By March they have hatched out and are ready to swim around.

These froglets are about 2 to 3 cms in length
