It obtains its name of Mountain Ash because of the resemblance of the leaves to those of the Ash

It has a very powerful reputation for curing illnesses. It is supposed to be able to undo a witch's spell. In times past a farmer would hang branches of rowan over the stall of a sick cow to cure it. Romanies refer to the Rowan as "the lucky tree"
The rowan is a light feathery tree with bright red berries in the Autumn. It can often be seen growing on the tors of Dartmoor.

In summer its leaves form a beautiful canopy to the pathway around our land. |

Its berries, when ripe, are bright red and are much loved by birds. It can be used to make a delicious jelly. |
