A WALK IN SEPTEMBER

Field Two

You can reach field two by walking along the ride and then turning left into thte woods.

The Ride alongside field two is still lush, everything is still growing.
There's still no sign of the pending Autumn
and on a good day the field still catches the sunlight.
It doesn't show in this picture but there is a haze of blue over the field from the Devil's Bit Scabious
In 2004 we found a white Devil's Bit Scabious.
and also a pink version.
The Marsh Fritillaries have moved on to their next hibernaculum. They leave behind the dead leaves and a slimy looking residue from the web.

There's plenty to see in the grass.

Here's a Pink Banded Sallow.

Our thanks to John Randall for identifying this one.

and a caterpillar of the Fox Moth.
This spider was on willow.
This fungus was on alder and is called Hypoxylon fuscum.
As it matures it goes a sepia colour.
Not sure if this is the same thing , but this was further down the same branch.
In 2005 we cleared a whole swathe of field two, extending it in a southerly direction. Here it is in 2005.
It will be interesting to see what grows in here within the next year. We are hoping for more orchids and possibly the Marsh Fritillaries extending their colony.
