A WALK IN MAY |
"The
Darling Buds of May"
Field Three Field Three covers an area of 1.93 acres ( 0.781 hectares).
|
Now the sun has climbed higher into the sky the light is beginning to penetrate into the field for longer each day and the field has come alive. |
Spring 2004 had brought out all the buds by the beginning of the month.
Here is a different view taken in may 2009. It shows how we have extended the field and how the grass has regenerated.
This is a view taken in May 2009. It shows how the bank had been rebuilt and the area around it cleared in 2006. It's greening over nicely.
The willows have put on a fine show. |
Some of the bramble has a rust fungus on it. |
By the end of the month the Southern Marsh Orchids are beginning to appear in profusion, although in 2007 a few had appeared by the first week of the month.
The figwort is growing well. |
The scrubby growth near the west side has encouraged this female Broad-bodied chaser (Libellula Depressa) to appear.
|
and also this female Beautiful Demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo) |
The moths are appearing in all their varieties. To see more visit our moths pages. . . .
So also are the moth experts. We are regularly visited by the Devon Moth Group and are very grateful for their research and interest.
This may beetle is a common sight, although this one was taken on a wall near Quoditch.
