A WALK IN JUNE

Field Three

Field Three covers an area of 1.93 acres ( 0.781 hectares). At this time of the year it is a warm, sheltered field, although the banks of brambles make it appear smaller than it really is.

The Southern Marsh Orchids that are out now are dotted all around the field. They disappear very rapidly and don't last as long as the Heath Spotted ones in field two. But, as you can see from the background to this page, they are quite profuse.

The wild roses are now also in flower in the bramble bank on the north side of the field.

The Herb Robert (Geranium Robertianum) is now showing itself in the woodland path at the west end.

Common Valerian (Valeriana Officinalis)can easily be found in this area. At the beginning of the month just the leaves are showing.

A little later the flowers start to appear. They are a rich purply pink.

This is a similar looking plant . It's Marsh Bedstraw (Galium Palustre - family Rubiaceae)

The bramble bank is now coming out in flower

The Meadow Brown butterflies have appeared. The darker scent patches on the wings denote that it is a male.
