QUODITCH EDUCATION DEVON
Gasteromycetes are fungi that grow on the ground and therefore protect their spore-producing areas. This mass of spores (usually powdery) is called a gleba. It remains inside the fungus until it is ready for release. They are sometimes called "Stomach Fungi".
This page contains details of the various
puffballs and stinkhorns that we have found at Quoditch
EARTHBALLS (SCLERODERMATACEAE)
The earthball is a common fungus, this one was photographed in
the Ride in October 1998. When it is cut open the inside looks like a
dirty grey fine earth.
