QUODITCH MOOR NATURE RESERVE

A WALK IN AUGUST

FIELD ONE

Here's a different view of Field One drawn by Maureen Douglas-Green in August 2004

This is a member of the Hogweed family - Heracleum
Already the seed heads are beginning to form.
This is the Blue Tailed Damsel Fly (Ischnura elegans). It is very common over the whole of the UK and can be found from May until early September. This one was hovering in the grasses in the middle of the field. Funnily enough, despite the books telling us it is common it has taken us three years to see one!
Everywhere in the grass are the larvae of moths and butterflies. We have yet to identify this one.
The Knapweed (Centaurea Nigra (Compositae) ) has appeared in the eastern corner of the field.

This is Marsh Ragwort (Senecio aquaticus) (Compositae) .

We have a complete page on Ragwort which even got a mention in Parliament.
